Unfortunately there comes a time in life that we have to accept our loved ones need more care than we can provide. The worst part of this time is the transition for our loved ones as well as ourselves. We have placed mom in two other facilities in the Golden Triangle. It was a horrible experience for both our mom as well as the family. Pelican Bay was recommended and we decided to give it a try. When we walked in the front door we felt the warm welcome. This place is beautifully decorated and smells nice. The dining room looks like a restaurant and the apartments are very spacious. It's been about 2 months and I must say it's the best place we could have chosen for our mom. The activities which include outings in the community go beyond my expectations. They celebrate holidays for the residents and have family gatherings. I know it's a very difficult time for all of us, but we can relax and know our mom is taken care of by a great staff and Administrator. I highly recommend this facility.

What a beautiful place to call home! But there's more there than meets the eye. I visit Pelican Bay weekly and I absolutely love working with the staff there. I see their heart for making sure their residents are well taken care of and this means everything. I'm so impressed with everyone that I interact with at Pelican Bay and I'm talking about EVERY department. If you're looking for a home for yourself or a loved one, go check out Pelican Bay. You won't be disappointed.

Please read before putting your family member in the memory care unit! The people are nice but I think they need better training in the care of the elderly. My 93-year-old grandmother entered the facility for a two week respite stay physically healthy (able to walk on her own and use the restroom on her own, no diapers etc). However, she has pretty severe dementia so she stayed in the memory care unit. Two days before she was to leave, I got a call from the facility telling me that she was not doing well. I went out to see her and found that she could not even stand up. I talked to the staff and asked them about her condition. They said that she had stayed up all night. I was concerned so I bought her some energy bars and supplement drinks for her to eat and drink. She looked sick and exhausted so I put her to bed, asked them to check for a fever and to send her to the hospital and call me if she did not recover the next day. I called the next day and the staff said she was doing better. When I came the following day, I found that she was still in terrible shape so I called an ambulance to take her to the hospital right away. She was incoherent, had wet herself, was sitting in wet pants and still could not stay awake. At the hospital, she was diagnosed with a fever, infection and dehydration. She stayed 3 days at the hospital and the doctor told me that she would not recover much. She has now been home for four days in my 24 hour care and is making a speedy recovery. Though there seems to be no lasting damage, I feel that this situation could have been avoided with better care from Pelican Bay. I am really disappointed in this facility. I am also really bothered that no one from the facility has called to check up on my grandmother. To me, that shows a lack of real caring.
