My grandmother-in-law was in Marquis Place for roughly one month in October 2024. I'm writing this to educate people that are trying to find their loved one the proper place for their condition. First, I don't think she was properly evaluated. That was mistake number one. She was a 2-3 person assist (because of some recent falls at a skilled nursing facility) when she moved into the memory care unit. No one told us that there were only 2 caregivers on the nightshift for roughly 20+ people. She has dementia and couldn't remember to press the button at night when she needed help so she'd try and get up to go potty and would fall. This led to the caregivers not putting her to bed at night and forcing her to sleep in her wheelchair in the living space which led to her being tired, sore, and combative, which led to her missing meals and medicine. This should be ILLEGAL and it probably is. One of the times they left her in her wheelchair all night was on her birthday! All of these combined things led to some of the nurses being irritable and upset with her and us. If your staff has to leave residents in their wheelchairs overnight isnt that a sign you need to do something different like hire more night staff or get a motion detector for the fall risks?? Their Ai camera system only records the fall as its happening. That means they have this for their defense, instead of being proactive and preventing falls with a motion detector or a bed alarm. I witnessed more often than not staff sitting and scrolling on their phones instead of interacting with residents. I witnessed a resident telling the nurse he had to go to the bathroom and she told him to wait until after lunch! There was no personal cares being done while we were there in the PM or AM - teeth brushing, hair combing, denture care, deoderant, barely remembered to put on her glasses. They weren't offering ANYONE water between meals and when I asked them about this in a meeting Erika the head nurse said that they needed to implement the water cart again. HUH?? THAT MEANS YOU STOPPED?? These are HUMAN BEINGS and you stopped offering them water? Is it so you dont have to offer them bathroom breaks as often = less staff = more money in the owners pocket?? My grandma would chug water when we came to visit her. We had to hire a private caregiver from 11pm- 10am while we sought out a safer facility. Our caregiver told us (and other family members that watched her) that she'd press the button for assistance and no one would come. If they did come it was 15+ minutes, and by then my grandma had soiled herself. I witnessed this myself as well. Erika the RN had to call and ask why no one was answering the call light - that day there was a staff member sitting on her phone at a table not paying attention. In the couple meetings we had with the head nurses we were treated like these things were our fault because she wasn't in the right care facility. Even after being told she wasn't right for the memory care unit they charged us for November. Sure, maybe she wasn't right for your facility but that doesn't change the fact that your staff is on their phone all the time, are not taking people to the bathroom when they ask, not answering call lights, letting residents starve because they slept through their meal, leaving other residents on the toilet when they are a fall risk (happened to a different resident), getting mad at family members when they ask for help, getting defensive when bad things are brought to their attention, not offering water between meals, LEAVING PEOPLE IN WHEELCHAIRS OVERNIGHT AND NOT PUTTING THEM TO BED, and not being attentive - another resident broke out my grandmas window, broke her picture, and was picked up by strangers. I'm gonna tell you how my grandma is doing now. We got her into a facility on 192nd north of dodge. She's walking great with the assistance of her walker, she is social with the other residents, she's HAPPY and doing activities, and she's put on weight because the food isn't microwaved.

Although Marquis isn’t available for our situation, after contacting over 14 different facilities I’m so relieved to have been in touch with Tracy. She is the only person who actually took time out of her crazy day to give me advice and helped point me in the right direction to find a facility that will fit our needs knowing we will not be able to utilize her facility/staff. She went above and beyond to help me on top of the wealth of knowledge she provided me, things to look for, and questions to ask. If she’s willing to do that for someone who isn’t living in this facility, I can only imagine how well she advocates for the people who do!

I love Marquis Place of Elkhorn! I have visited many times. They have a great atmosphere, very clean and give phenomenal care to their residents. I encourage families to reach out to Marquis place for the care that your loved one deserves. You won’t find a better place that tops any other assisted living facility. Wonderful! Thank you so much for everything you all do!!!

I have enjoyed being in Marquis Place during the last two years. It has a great staff who care for each resident. Each of the staff has been very helpful when I had a question. Sylvia Slatten oversees the staff well and Tracy Marcinski does an excellent job of marketing their senior community. I am grateful for all of the staff and their work each day.
