Care

Skilled Nursing

Skilled nursing and nursing homes are residential facilities that offer medical care and support for individuals that require a higher level of medical attention and assistance. These are staffed by licensed healthcare providers and offer a range of services to ensure the well-being and comfort of residents.

I had to formally complain about the treatment my father received as a temporary patient on the rehab wing after he was admitted post hospital discharge. We came in and only stayed two nights. I brought him a normal glass of water from an untended mobile drinks station myself, on arrival, but which later disappeared never to be replaced again in a 24 hour period. Thank god I was in and out of the facility to help care for him. I shudder to think what happens to people who are left on their own to fend for themselves. He was instructed not to get out of bed, as a fall risk, and to ring the call button if he needed assistance. In the night, he followed instructions as he is cogent, and was ignored, by his estimate, nearly an hour and so long that he soiled the bed for the first time in his life. The daytime nurse had no idea what was going on and found him with no clothes on in bed in the morning, wiped, but unshowered. She promptly dressed him in borrowed clothes, parked him in a wheelchair and left him in the dining room for an hour and a half even though he can and should be walking with a rollator. I also observed dining room wait staff who could literally care less about their job or the people there. I have never seen staff more uninterested, calous and dismissive of their own work responsibilities. The staff morale seems very low, though the one bright spot was the actual physical therapist who did a good job in the 20 minutes we saw him. If you can, avoid this facility at all costs. One star is too many.

I posted my review about 2 weeks ago, and it seems to have disappeared. I didn't really get to see if this facility would work for my husband, because Jennifer Never followed up on anything, even though we had made a time for her to come and evaluate my husband . I left Four Messages and she never returned ANY of them. For a front end employee she is a complete failure.

Jennifer in admissions needs some training. She was an ineffective and poor communicator, who didn't bother reaching out directly to the family for details. Rather than find out the specifics, she added more stress to the situation by making it clear she couldn't be bothered to do her due diligence, wasn't well-versed in the specifics of her job, and made assumptions that could have been easily rectified had she bothered to reach out directly to the family to find out more. She made us feel like she valued profit over people. It was unprofessional to the point that we were all completely shell-shocked, as this facility had been our first choice prior to that interaction. My loved one is in a better facility with a higher quality staff, but I will be escalating my complaints up the ladder to ensure the next family who needs to find skilled care for their loved one doesn't end up feeling the way we did.

I just moved my mom, who has had dementia for years, into the Aspen Community which is the memory care unit. She was in medical rehab for a stroke on another hall for the first 3.5 weeks. I can’t say enough good things about every single person I’ve met at La Villa Grande. They are kind and compassionate to the residents as well as family members. Carolyn, the social services director, was a tremendous help and support trying to navigate this life change for my mom. Mandi, on the medical rehab hall, stopped everything she was doing to listen to me every time I showed up at her desk. Becky in memory care has been wonderful. Can’t forget Greg and Brenda in physical therapy. My mom was back to her physical baseline in no time. I’m so grateful to EVERYONE there.
