After caring for my mother with dementia for over 7 months in my home, I moved her to Drumlin Reserve Memory Care in Cottage Grove. She has been there for over 2 years now and couldn't be more happy with the decision we made. The care she receives is great and the staff takes care of her needs very professionally. The Director and other managing staff have been very receptive to questions and making reasonable accommodations for my mother. She is in great care and I know she is safe, secure, and her needs are being met. As with any facility, there is always room for improvement and staff have always been open to suggestions or different ways of accomplishing care goals. I, or another family member, visit my mother almost every day and have never witnessed anything that would cause me to pause and question the care anyone is receiving in the facility. Your loved one will receive great care and you will have comfort in knowing they are safe in the facility. Just recently I was experiencing difficulty getting my mother approved for Medicaid. Director Travis Borchert assisted me with some questions and even offered me solutions to help find ways to bridge the gap between the time when my mother's money ran out to the time Medicaid would take over payments for her care. Travis went above and beyond with his assistance so my mother could stay in the facility without having to move her once again (Which is something you do not want to do to someone in advanced stages of dementia). Overall I would recommend the Drumlin Reserve Campus to anyone looking for a place for their love one to live.

My 78 year old mother has been at Drumlin Reserve ~ Assisted Living (Age in Place) for about 4 months now! Mom has left side weakness due to Right pontine lacunar infarct stroke (2/2020) & uses walker daily, due to balance issues! I am VERY happy that she is at Drumlin Reserve, ALL employees (too many names to list individuals) & management (Travis) have went above & beyond to make sure that mom is happy/safe! I would recommend this facility to any other family that is looking for a family member, they provide daily activities, weekly bus trips, deserts after every meal & most of all truly care about each individual’s feelings! They are always looking for new ideas & actually follow through with any suggestions made, to make sure each individual is comfortable with any new changes! Mom has also made many new friends, that when I come to visit almost every day ~ I get GREAT stories from activities or from residents just sitting around outside talking ~ with this, I know mom is truly enjoying life!!

DO NOT have a loved one move here!! Certain members of the care staff are patient and caring individuals (and we made sure they knew it!). However, the management of DR are dishonest, self-serving, disconnected and just plain lousy. Mom (age 91) needed daily injections for a month to deal with a life-threatening blood clot. Staff nurse refused to assist AT ALL with the injections even though she is (supposed to be) there five days a week. The Director insisted they "couldn't" because their license as a RCAC didn't allow it....which is complete and utter bs [Note: You should become informed of RCAC and nursing statutes and regulations!] They offered NO help to the family whatsoever in making other arrangements. As a result the treatments were delayed by a week while we scrambled to find other resources and make arrangements. We asked for a staffing plan for the facility (and you should too!). Per state statutes, any RCAC is required to supply a written staffing plan (NOT a statement...a plan) upon request. We were denied and flat out refused several times by the Director ("I do NOT have to give that to you!") A complaint and formal request made to the Regional Director at CAPRI was similarly denied. I finally filed a complaint with the the DHS Quality Assurance Division. We noted discrepancies in care multiple times and suggested repeatedly that further training and/or communication protocols should be reviewed. They stated they would do so, but never did. We asked to be notified if mom received narcotics as she would be at risk of falling and we wanted a family member to come help; nope. No such communications were "possible". A care staff recorded that mom was given a pain killer (narcotic) when in actuality a home health nurse was WITH mom at that time and reported mom had zero pain and no one gave her anything. I reported it to the director and expressed concern that they had a gap in their system which may allow meds to be stolen. Nothing was ever changed or addressed. Care staff were discovered sleeping during shift, resulting in an injured tenant not receiving a response to a call for help. A staff member withheld medication for mom when mom became upset over a 45 minute delay in receiving the Tylenol because the staff member "was busy". When mom expressed frustration, the staff member stated, "Fine, then I'm leaving and taking the Tylenol with me." We discovered that mom had had a dangerously high heart rate and blood pressure reading one day that was totally ignored - care staff never reported it to the supervisor or retook it for clarification. The nurse dismissed it as "an error" when she was confronted about the lack of follow-up. After we insisted that - if it was an error - it should have been retaken (or, again, at least reported to her), we were accused of demanding staff take her vitals twice a day. Mere days later, our mom was given a termination notice. They stated that mom needed "24 hour nursing care", but wouldn't give any reasons as to why they stated that. Staff was told that it was because the family demanded twice daily vitals. Mom was later told it was because she had had too many hospital visits in the past few months; however, there was NO updated evaluation done by the nurse (per the signed residency agreement), no written report given (again, per the residency agreement), and mom was only getting around 10-12 hours of care per week - FAR below the 28 hours per week allowed in a RCAC. Except for daily vitals and medication distribution, she was independent. That contract means NOTHING! BTW - ALL of this was reported in detail to an agent in DHS, including video recordings. We are waiting to hear the result of his investigation. We were told that there were two other investigations pending. Is this what you want for your loved one??

Update after being sold to Capri I would NEVER recommend this facility, management is horrible! The RN has been pushing to get my Mom out since day one in my opinion. Funny how the executive director acts so different being her puppet too. My mother is 92 has never gone outside on her own, has a prosthetic and is in a wheel chair and supposedly tried to go down the stairs(funny thing is she is on the main floor, stairs only go up!). Then after we were told our mom had to move to memory care and we’re given 30 days and it took longer, Travis called, yes he called where he could hind behind the phone and tell my sister if my mom wasn’t out by the 30th (about a week and 1/2)they were going to evict my 92 year old mother and would call the cops and have her and her stuff on the front lawn! What kind of person could say this about a sweet 92 yr old that hasn’t done anything and is NOT a flight risk, but the funniest thing is there is someone there that does walk out and they had to make their name really big because she goes into other peoples rooms, but it was my mom that needed memory care?. Well we did get her out of there because who would want to leave their parent in such a horrible place! Please do yourself and your family members a favor and NEVER allow them to become a resident of Drumlin!! When it was owned by Huston’s this place was the best, but definitely went right down hill. There is one nurse there and she knows who she is that is unbelievable and i Hope she finds another place to work! During COVID and the Holidays Jessica and Travis helped our very large family make sure we could zoom with our mother! We super appreciate all the extra effort to make it happen!
