Care
Assisted Living
A living option for seniors or individuals who require assistance with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, or medication management while maintaining a level of independence. Assisted living facilities offer personalized care plans and social activities that promote quality of life for their residents.
Memory Care
Memory care communities offer specialized care and support for individuals dealing with memory-related conditions, such as Alzheimer’s or dementia. These facilities are equipped with trained staff and offer engaging activities designed to promote well-being while ensuring a safe living environment.
Respite Care
Respite care is short-term or temporary care. Respite care can be provided in adult day centers, in private homes via home health agencies and in senior living communities, most often assisted living or skilled nursing facilities.

Pulling from a variety of reliable data sources, Walk Score® measures the walkability of any address, helping you understand how easy it is to live a car-free lifestyle. Transit Score®, when available, measures how well a location is served by public transit. Scores range from 0 to 100, with higher scores indicating more amenities within walking distance and diverse transit options nearby.

Deciding to move a loved one from independent to assisted living is not an easy journey. Especially when up against an end-of-lease situation. Abby made things happen quickly (which we know is not the norm) and the entire team at Bickford showed compassion, respect, and caring – both to our father and to us as we made the transition. The approach that Bickford is their resident’s HOME rings true in all that they do. Abby asked about dad’s likes, dislikes, favorite foods, etc. All the little things that matter when making a person feel comfortable and safe. Dad is very content there, and most importantly safe and well cared for.

Abby is truly amazing! She goes above and beyond to answer the same questions many times to help my family understand. She makes everyone feel welcome and special and I just can’t say enough words about her! The facility is very clean and all the staff seems super friendly! The enclosed courtyard is BEAUTIFUL and safe, which I love. They make the residents feel it is their home and not a facility. The “restaurant”is cute and makes them feel it is a family dining experience. The residents can either eat there or have food brought to their room, and they have many food choices. There are many common areas to watch tv, do a puzzle, etc. They also have a church service option onsite WHICH WE LOVE. Bickford is so accommodating and I have loved every time we have went in there. Again, shout out to Abby and Miss Shirley!

Great, clean facility, with staff that cares. Being one floor is a plus as you always see residents out and about, often doing puzzles in the puzzle corner, or playing games together. I have been in a lot of assisted livings and you will see how the residents are out and about in the mornings in the courtyard! I also love that the memory care wing has its own courtyard with plants, and residents aren’t just alone in their rooms all day (and are almost always together). Definitely worth a tour!

My 89 year old grandmother is suffering from Alzheimer’s. She previously had full-time in-home healthcare. During a bad bout of sundowners she called the police because she thought she was in danger. Unfortunately, the officers didn’t understand what was going on and they sent her to the emergency room. From there, the hospital transported her without our knowledge to a psychiatric hospital, where they then pumped her full of antipsychotics. It was the most difficult time our family has ever had. Without an appointment we stopped at Bickford of Gurnee looking for any supports or any options we might have. They could not have been more supportive and understanding of our situation. They not only helped us through everything but they sent a nurse out to see my grandmother to evaluate her and determine that she could be placed at Bickford. The day finally came where she was released and moved to her new home. Since then my grandmother has decreased her meds, she’s lucid, put weight back on and has returned to her previous self. The nurses and caregivers are so patient and understanding. They’re in constant communication with us, which lets our family heal from the trauma we all endured when my grandmother was wrongfully placed. Knowing where she is every day, knowing that there are people surrounding her that are understanding, compassionate, communicative and loving, allows all of us to sleep better at night. We will forever be eternally grateful to the people at Bickford. My grandmother has friends and community there. She’s constantly involved in activities, which helps keep her mind sharp. My family is so grateful to be able to pop in at any time day or night. we often stop in to visit and the residents are all involved in some fun activity like birthday celebrations, arts and crafts or hitting a piñata and celebration of baseball’s opening day. We cannot recommend Bickford enough. Placing your loved one in a home is one of the most difficult things you’ll ever have to do. For anyone who is struggling with this very difficult transition in a loved one’s life Bickford of Gurnee is a truly supportive accommodating facility to guide you throughout the transition.
