Care
Assisted Living
A living option for seniors or individuals who require assistance with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, or medication management while maintaining a level of independence. Assisted living facilities offer personalized care plans and social activities that promote quality of life for their residents.
Memory Care
Memory care communities offer specialized care and support for individuals dealing with memory-related conditions, such as Alzheimer’s or dementia. These facilities are equipped with trained staff and offer engaging activities designed to promote well-being while ensuring a safe living environment.
Respite Care
Respite care is short-term or temporary care. Respite care can be provided in adult day centers, in private homes via home health agencies and in senior living communities, most often assisted living or skilled nursing facilities.
Neighborhood
Pulling from a variety of reliable data sources, Walk Score® measures the walkability of any address, helping you understand how easy it is to live a car-free lifestyle. Transit Score®, when available, measures how well a location is served by public transit. Scores range from 0 to 100, with higher scores indicating more amenities within walking distance and diverse transit options nearby.

I highly suggest checking the Virginia Department of Social Services website (Licensing - Search for Assisted Living Facilities) to review complaints and violations for Bickford of Chesapeake. Management promises to deliver services that they repeatedly are unable or unwilling to provide, including basic personal care, meals according to dietary restrictions, accurate medication management, and maintaining a safe environment, including not responding to emergency calls and not making required evening rounds. They are continually understaffed and staff turnover is rapid. My family was impressed by how Bickford was presented but quickly realized we made a big mistake moving our father there.

My family was given the golden sales pitch when we were looking for a place to help my dad in his final months. What we got was far from what was advertised. There were several employees who did their very best, and we appreciated it, but some were not so dedicated, as well as management simply being incompetent. All residents wear a fall monitor, but we found they weren’t of much use when our father fell and laid on the floor for 5 hours, and that’s on camera. I wish everyone luck in finding an assisted living community that isn’t an obvious cash grab, such as Bickford.

The building is beautiful, but my family's experience was heartbreaking for our dad. He declined rapidly after moving in and sadly, he was only a resident for six months before he passed away. It took daily effort on our part to ensure that Dad was properly cared for and we frequently reported items that were overlooked in his care plan including bathing, getting him dressed and to meals and helping him prepare for bed in the evenings. More disappointing was the slow response (sometimes none at all) from management. After witnessing him fall hard in the middle of one night and no response from caretakers until we phoned them, we were no longer able to trust the emergency call alert system. I would highly recommend a camera in the room if you consider placing a loved one here.

Beautiful place with great staff! Amy the Happiness Coordinator is amazing and is excellent with the residents! She works hard to keep the residents engaged with great activities!
